William Samol

Mr. William Samol, age 86, of 7662 Catherine St.SE, Masury, Ohio died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 3:10 a.m. in Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness. Mr Samol was born in Wheeling, WV on October 11, 1924, the son of the late Andrew Samol Sr. and Cecilia (Halagoska) Samol. He was a 1942 graduate of Hickory High Scholl and a 1952 graduate of Youngstown State University. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he was a rear gunner on the PBY-5A aircraft flying missions in the Pacific. He was awarded the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement. He had worked as a corporate accountant and auditor for the former Commercial Shearing in Youngstown, Ohio. He had also been an instuctor for the Dale Carnegy courses. In his younger days, he had worked at the former U.S. Steel Corp., also in Youngstown. Bill was an excellent accordion player who enjoyed gardening, traveling, and reading. He was of the Christian faith. Surviving are his wife, Marsue "Sue" Rene (Schell) Samol, whom he married on June 5, 1943, his two daughters, Susan Funelli, Masury, Ohio and Laurie Walsh and her husband Matthew, of Westfield, IN and four grandaughters, Kristen Funelli, Rachel, Becca, and Sarah Walsh. Also survivng are a sister, Sophie Baumgartner and her husband, Louis of Sharon, PA and a brother, Andrew Samol Jr. and his wife, Jean of Sharpsville, PA . Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by tow brothers,John and Matthew Samol. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and doctors of SHHS Cardiovascular Unit, especially, Dr. Ronald Mignella, for the care and compassion Bill received during his illness. Friends are invited to call Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State Street, Sharon, PA 16146. Funeral services will follow at 6:00p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage, PA.
