William J. "Bill" Zipay,age 87, of 2326 State Route 7 NE Fowler, OH., died peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 10:20 a.m., in his residence, after an extended illness.
Mr. Zipay was born in Hartford twp., OH on December 30, 1924, the son of the late Michael and Marie (Kaminsky) Zipay. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He had worked as a journeyman carpenter at Carpenters Union 171, of Youngstown, OH., having been a member for over 50 years. He had also done farming, owning the farm where he was born and raised. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Having owned and raced sprint and stock cars, Bill was well known in the area racing community. It was truly his passion in life.
He was the husband of Irene R. (Koches) Zipay. whom her married on May 6, 1944. She survives at home. Also survivng are two daughters, Nancy DeSalvo and her husband, John, of Warren, OH. and Barbara Scudere, and her companion, Gary Mitchell of Vernon, OH, and his son, William Joseph Zipay and his wife, Carol, of Hartford, OH. along with three grandchildren, Rhonda Zipay, Lou Scudere, and April Scudere. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
