William H. Cairey, of Hermitage, passed away on Saturday evening, Dec. 26, 2015, in Garden Way Place, Hermitage, after a brief illness. He was 88.
William was born in Sharon, PA on October 4, 1927, the son of the late Harry W. and Myrtle F. (Gaines) Cairey. He was a 1945 graduate of Farrell High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Ship's Service man 3rd class, serving in Guam during WW II.
He had worked as a supervisor at the former Westinghouse Plant in Sharon, for 36 years before retiring in 1982.
Bill was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage and was a member of and Past Treasurer of Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge #810, of Hermitage. He was a Past Commander of the Hickory VFW Post 6166. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing euchre, and traveling. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was the husband of Ruth A. (Perrine) Cairey, whom he married on September 25, 1948. She survives him. Also surviving are his two daughters, Candace Bertmeyer of Masury, OH, and Gail Cellini and her husband, James, of McMurray, PA, and his son, Scott Cairey and his wife, Jean, of Carrolton, TX, and 5 grandchildren, Jacki (John) Rusch, Kim (Justin) Elder, Luke Cellini, Rachel Cellini, and Michael (Jackie)Andras, along with his two great-grandchildren, Addison and Evan Rusch. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Hillman, and his brothers, Robert and James Cairey.
The family would like to thank the staff of Garden Way Place for their compassion and excellent care given to Bill during his time there.

Funeral service at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon, PA. at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31st, with Rev. David Evans, of Hickory United Methodist Church officiating. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home by the Hickory VFW, Post #6166 Honor Guard. Interment at Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage, PA
