Walter L. Algoe

Walter L. Algoe, of Hermitage, PA, went to be with the Lord at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 86.
Mr. Algoe was born in Masury, OHIO on September 9, 1930, the son of the late Walter McKinley and Genevieve B. (Pindle) Algoe. After graduating from Brookfield High School, he worked at the former Sharon Steel and then served in the National Guard and was inducted into the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage.
Walter opened his own business "Algoe Studio of Photography" in Hermitage, retiring in 2001 after over 40 years as a well -known and award winning portrait and wedding photographer. He attended the Marketing Education Center of Eastman Kodak and had been an adult education instructor at the Mercer County Technical Center. In previous years, while attending Youngstown State University, he managed the former Plaza Camera & Hobby Shop in Hermitage and the former Rembrandt Studio in Sharon.
Walter was a member of the Pennsylvania Professional Photographers Association, a life member of the Hidden Valley Sportsman's Club and was active in several area bowling and golf leagues. His greatest passion was piloting, flying out of the Greenville Airport.
He married the love of his life, Joyce G. (John) Algoe on Sept. 10, 1955. She survives him at home. Also surviving are his two sons, Terrence John Algoe and his wife Sandra S. (Stefanak) and Thomas Blake Algoe all of Hermitage, PA, a grandson Shawn A. Algoe and his wife Rachel E. (Hull), of Mercer, PA and a granddaughter, Megan E. Wasko of Ft. Myers, FL, two great-grandchildren, Owen A. Algoe and Avery Algoe, and a brother-in-law, Adrian John and his wife Sandra, of Andover, OH. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Alta Schramm, a brother Bernard Algoe and an infant brother, Robert Algoe.
Donations in his memory may be made to SRHS Hospice and Palliative Care, 1955 Shenango Valley Frwy., Hermitage, PA or to the Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
At his request there will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Brookfield twp. Cemetery, Brookfield twp., OH. Funeral arrangements by the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA.
