Susan D. "Sue" PETERS, age 92, formerly of Hermitage, Transfer, and Upper St Clair, passed peacefully January 9, 2026. She was born Mary Suzanne Driscoll on March 13, 1933 in Connellsville, PA to Frances (Zimmerman) and Paul V. Driscoll, Sr. Sue trained as a nurse at Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA and married the late David A. Vermeire on November 25, 1953. Together, they raised four sons, later divorcing in 1979. She was married to William W. Peters from 1981 until his death in 2016.
Sue worked as a nurse for many years, primarily in neo-natal and maternity care. She was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church where she was very active, serving on various committees and singing in the choir for many years, she volunteered with Penn State Extension, the Red Cross, and sang in the Shenango Valley Chorale.
Sue enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time outdoors. She loved sewing and, in addition to making clothes for herself, her children, and grandchildren, she made and donated many burial clothes for infants who died at or shortly after birth. She was an animal lover, having raised dogs, cats, horses, canaries, and sheep for many years. She was an excellent cook and loved to have family and friends into her home for meals.
Always a stickler for proper English grammar, she was known to audiences of WPIC radio as the "grammar lady" because she frequently called to correct the grammar of the on-air announcers.
Preceding Susan in death were her parents and two sisters. She leaves her sons David, Daniel (Melody), Drew (Valerie Patrizi), Dean (Lisa), her half-brothers Paul V. Driscoll, Jr. (Pamela) and Dewitt Driscoll, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and extended family members. A celebration of her life will be held on February 15 at 1:30 pm at Beinhauer Family Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317 with Pastor Dave EVANS officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to American Parkinson Disease Association. On-line condolences may be offered by visiting stevensonfuneralhome.net or beinhauer.com.
Arrangements are being handled by the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, PA, 16146.
