Sophie Delores Chambers,formerly of Williams Drive, West Middlesex, PA passed away on Monday, February 24th, 2014 in Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington, due to complications from vascular dementia. She was 86.
Sophie was born in Granville, WV, on September 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Ritz) Harrison. As a young girl, she enjoyed her activities in art classes and Girl Scouts. Sophie loved school, later expressing her enthusiasm as a member of the Pep Squad and as "lead role" in the high school play, graduating in 1946 from the University High School in West Virginia.
Following graduation, Sophie worked as a secretary and met her husband, Wallace G. Chambers, who was an electrical engineering student at West Virginia University. They were married on November 24, 1948, in Oakland ,MD. In 1950, they moved to the Sharon, PA area where Wallace had accepted a position at the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. He passed away on March 17, 2005.
Sophie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon, where she was devoted to those in need, distributing food in the church Food Pantry, and serving as an Ecumenical Minister delivering communion to the church's elderly, ill, and disabled. She was multi-talented, enjoying a broad range of activities. She was a member of the Tam O' Shanter's Women's Golf League and a number of area bridge clubs. In her younger years, she was proud to be a Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons. Sophie prolifically worked with ceramics, oil painting, cake decorating, crocheting and needlecraft. Enjoying baking, it was a treat to receive her homemade apple pie, Easter bread and raspberry bars.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia M. Chambers of Culver City, CA, two sons, John M. Chambers, North Conway, NH, and Todd A. Chambers, of Farrell, PA along with her grandchildren, Sara Watkins, Bryan, Tanya, and Glennys Chambers. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Glenn L. Chambers.

Memorial Service at Christ Lutheran Church,396 Buhl Blvd., Sharon, PA Sharon, PA. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15th, with Rev. Michael Lozano officiating.
