Ruth K. Stoddard, of Sharpsville, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at 11:05 a.m., in UPMC Horizon Hospital in Farrell, after an extended illness. She was 87.
Ruth was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 25, 1928. She graduated in 1952 from the Philadelphia Bible Institute.
She was the widow of Donald A. Stoddard. whom she married on Sept. 10, 1955. He died on June 12, 2014. Ruth had worked as missionary, along with her husband, at TEAM in Pakistan, for 38 years, teaching women and children how to read and write and was very involved in women's literacy.
While living in Bradenton, Florida, she was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Living in this area since 2012, she attended Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon and had been a member of the Couplers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and in her younger years, she liked to play the violin.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Virginia A. Long and her husband, David of Ukhwi, Botswana, Africa and Joy A. Johnston and her husband, Thomas, of Sharpsville, PA and her son, Gene A. Stoddard and his wife Bonita, of West Chicago, IL along with her 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Cecilia Bodden and her husband , Donald, of Keremeds, Brittish Columbia. Besides her husband and her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Miller.
