Ruth E. Sankey

Ruth E. Sankey, of Orlando, FL, formerly of Wakefield Dr., Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2017, at 10:34 a.m., in Spring Hills Hunter Creek, Orlando, after an extended illness. She was 89.
Ruth was born in North Liberty twp. Mercer County, PA on November 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Ernest M. and Nellie Elizabeth (McGrath) Brenneman. She was a 1945 graduate of Mercer High School and went on to graduate in 1948 from the former Christian H. Buhl Hospital School of Nursing.
She had worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Youngstown, OH, for over 30 years retiring in 1992. Ruth was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church Sharon, PA., and attended the Couplers Sunday School Class of the church.
In her younger years, Ruth had been a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Bank and at the M.C.A.R. Cafe in Hermitage. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family.
She was the wife of John R. "Jack" Sankey, who died on March 13, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Olson and her son, Gary Sankey, both of Orlando, FL, her three grandchildren, Jason M., Matthew R. and Abigail L. Olson, and her two great-grandchildren, Jemmarose and Matthew. Also surviving is her sister, Hazel Ferguson of Greenville, PA, along with three nephews and one niece. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard L. Sankey who died July 14, 1997.

At her request there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146, on Wed. April 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
