Robert Glenn "Ziggy" Zikmund, of Hermitage, PA, passed away in his home on Sunday, March 5, 2017 , at 3:25 a.m. after an extended illness. He was 86.
Bob was born in Turtle Creek, PA on June 29, 1930, the son of the late Joseph and Grace A. (McVicar) Zikmund. He was a 1948 graduate of Farrell High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army serving in Japan.
Bob had worked as a mechanical draftsman at the former Westinghouse plant in Sharon for several years retiring in 1983. He had also worked as a bartender at various restaurants in the area including the former Shenango Inn.
He was a member of Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church Wheatland, PA., He also attended the New Virginia Methodist Church more recently.
Ziggy was an avid outdoorsman and loved sports and had played baseball with the Penn-Ohio Oldtimers League as well as softball in the church softball league. He was a big Detroit Tigers fan. Bob loved spending time with his family nd was very proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments in sports, music, and academic awards. He enjoyed having breakfast with his good friends Tucker, Tom, along with Chet and Donald who recently passed away.
He was the husband of Nancy (Maykowski Kovach) Zikmund, whom he married on Nov. 25, 2000. She survives him at home in Hermitage. His first wife, the former Mary Ann Denis, whom he married on July 11, 1953 passed away on July 31, 1993. Other survivors include his daughters, Nancy Szabo and her husband Charles, of Canfield, OH, Janet Geisel and her husband Bill, of Hermitage, PA, sons Bob Zikmund of Hermitage, PA., Ron Zikmund of Lititz, PA, his step-daughters, Michelle Lump and her husband Rob, of Poland, OH., Beth Ann Kovach of Campbell, OH, Tina Lockward and her husband Maximo, of Boardman, OH,
and a step-son, Gary Kovach and his wife, Stephanie of Arizona. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jayson Szabo , Elise Szabo, Billy Geisel and his wife Megan, Jodi Sweesy and her husband, Jay, Ross Zikmund and his life-partner, Ben Talik, Chase Zikmund, Ashlyn Zikmund, Lea Zikmund, and five step-grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, Will and Byron Geisel, Brinley Sweesy, and the soon to be Vera Sweesy. His survivors also include his sister, Grace Grande, of Hermitage,PA and a brother Don Zikmund and his wife Susan, of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his first wife, He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Zikmund.

Funeral service at Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, Wheatland, PA at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8th, with Rev Mark Goswick, pastor of the Wheatland-Farrell Methodist Church and
the New Virginia United Methodist Church, and Rev. Charles Eckles of IHS Gospell Ministries officiating.
