Raymond A. Laird, 83, of  Mercer, PA, formerly of S. Darby Rd., Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, in Sharon Regional Health System, after an extended illness. He was 83.
Mr. Laird was born in Hermitage, PA on March 12, 1931, the son of the late Leonard and Verna (Cameron) Laird. He attended Hickory Schools growing up. He was a member of New Virginia Methodist Church in Hermitage.
Raymond had worked as a custodian at 1st Presbyterian Church of Sharon for 30 years retiring in 1994. He had also worked at thhe former Al Bobby House Movers in Farrell.
He was a member of the New Virginia 70 Club. Raymond loved woodworking along with watching and listening to his family perform music.
He  married  the former Harriet Alice (Hollibaugh) Laird on May 21, 1949. She died June 1, 2013. Raymond is survived by his two daughters, Sharyn Tompkins and her husband, Arthur and Kathryn Borsa and her husband, Michael, all of Hermitage, PA, two sons, Rodger Laird and his wife, Candy, and Randolph "Randy" Laird and his wife, Brenda, also all of Hermitage, PA., eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Also survivng are a sister,  Florence "Terry" Scopack  and her husband, John,of Mercer, PA, and three brothers, Richard Laird of Mercer ,PA,  David Laird and his wife, Joan, of Sharon,PA, and Walter "Wally" Laird, and his wife, Ruth, of Brookfield, OH. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Brent Tompkins,  a sister, Norma Jean Mayerchak, and two brothers, Leonard Laird, and Russell Laird Sr.
Donations in his memory may be made to the New Virginia Methodist Church, 1100 S. Keelridge Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Friends are invited to call  Saturday , April 12, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.  at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State Street, Sharon, PA 16146.
Funeral service at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon, PA. at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th,  with Rev. Mark  Gosnick of New Virginia Methodist Church officiating.
Interment at Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage, PA.
