Ralph C. Hudspeth, of Whispering Oaks, 260 S. Buhl Farm Dr., Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 3:09 a.m. in his residence after a brief illness. He was 96.
Ralph was born in Cleveland, OH on July 7, 1916, the son of the late William and Catherine Hudspeth.
He attended Sharon school growing up. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army serving in the 100th Division, 398th Infantry Regiment in France and Germany during WWII earning two Bronze Stars and a Battlefield Commission. He was one of three WWII veteran honorees in the 2008 Mercer Memorial Day Parade.
Ralph was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, PA., where he had served as a deacon.
He had worked as tool and die maker at Sawhill Tubular Division of Cyclops Sharon., for 28 years. He had also worked as a machinist at the former Sharon Steel and also for Westinghouse in Sharon.
In his younger years, he had been a Scoutmaster of of Boy Scouts Troop # 3. Ralph enjoyed playing golf. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of F.& A.M. , Hermitage Lodge #810.
Ralph was the widower of Betty L. (John) Hudspeth. whom he married on February 7, 1941. She died in 2011. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Kahl of Sharon, PA and his two sons, Robert Hudspeth and his wife, Joyce, of Charleston, SC., William Hudspeth of Irmo, SC. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by his two sisters, Dorothy Skinner and Dorothy Mastantuono and two brothers, Ed Hudspeth and Russell Pass.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassion and care given during Ralph's illness.
