Philip J. Marrie Jr.

Philip James. Marie Jr., of Hermitage died peacefully on Nov. 11, 2017, with his family by his side, in Sharon Regional Medical Center. He was 76.

Phil was born in Sharon, PA the son of the late Philip and Nancy Marrie. Phil was a 1959 graduate of Sharon High School and received his bachelor's degree in Economics from Pennsylvania State University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is an alumnus of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking and a graduate of the Columbia University Executive Management School.

He worked for over 40 years in the banking industry. first with what is now FNB Corp.'s First National Bank of Pennsylvania in 1963 then joining McDowell National Bank in 1966 as loan officer. In 1985, he became president and chief operating officer of McDowell National Bank followed in 1988 being named chief executive officer. In 1991, following a merger, he was named executive vice president of Integra Bank North. in 1995, following another merger, Phil was named community bank president for National City Bank. In banking, he served on the government affairs committee of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association and was a director and chairman of the PBA Central Atlantic School of Banking at Bucknell University. He retired from banking in 2002.
Phil was extremely committed to improving the quality of life for the residents and businesses in the Shenango Valley. He served as president of the advisory board of the Penn State Shenango Campus for 20 years as well as serving on the boards of the F.H. Buhl Trustees, Penn Northwest Development Corp., Sharon Regional Health System Development Board, Subscribers for Encouraging Economic Developement, Horizon Hospital Foundation Board, Shenango Valley Industrial Development Corp., and the Industrial Information Institute.
He is a past president of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Mercer County Association for the Retarded, and a past director and co-chairman of the United Way of Mercer County and Buhl Park Corp. His commitment and dedication to the bank and community won the respect of his employees, peers and the community. For several years, he served as the honorary chairperson for the local March of Dimes Walk America and has been honored as the Outstanding Man of the Year by the Shenango Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce, Man of the Year by the Pennsylvania Federation of Women's Clubs, Boss of the Year by the American Business Women's Association, Honoree for Buhl Day 2002, and Distinguished Citizen Award of the French Creek Council Boy Scouts of America. Phil was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and was a dedicated loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Marrie; daughter, Melissa Baron and her husband Nick, two sons, Philip J. Marrie III "Chip" and his wife, Lisa and Marc T. Marrie and his wife Tina; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Maxwell, Benjamin, Abbey, Bowie and Nash. He is also survived by an Aunt; Carolyn Miglin and a sister-in-law; Joyce Marrie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Marrie.

A Gathering Time will be held on Wed., Nov. 15 2017 , from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon and at the church, one hour prior to service.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs. Nov. 16, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., Hermitage, PA with Rev. Adam T. Trambley officiating. Funeral and cremation arrangements by The Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon.
