Neil S. McCartney, of Hermitage, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at 10:50 a.m. in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 85.
Neil was born in Clarion, PA on February 10, 1931, the son of the late Clinton E. and Thelma (Jones) McCartney. He was a 1949 graduate of Frankfurt Dependence High School. Neil went on to serve his country by serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and by serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
He had worked as a tax collector at state of California for 16 years. Previous to that, he was a Major in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring in 1971. Neil was of the Catholic faith.
He was the widower of Ervina (Hall) McCartney whom he married on May 9, 1952. She died on Sept. 14, 2009. He is survived by his two son-in-laws, Arthur Horne of Elk Grove, CA, and Thomas Good, of Monterey, CA, along with 5 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Also surviving are his brother, Robert Brandt and his wife Olympia, of Hermitage, PA and a close friend, Linda Oliver and her husband, of Wheatland, PA. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by all his children, Angela and Gayle McCartney, Cheryl Waltmire, Allison Horne, and Clinton E. McCartney, and a sister, Nancy McCartney.

Donald Berdis of Our Lady Of Fatima/St. Ann's Church officiating and Military Honors presented by the Farrell, Wheatland, West Middlesex Honor Guard.
