Mary Ann DelFratte, age 89, of Sharon, PA, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, in UPMC Shenango Valley Hospital, Farrell, with her loving family by her side.
Born February 1, 1935, in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie (Meckel) Caniff. She married Guy Patrick DelFratte on June 26, 1954 and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2005.
Mary graduated from Red Bank High School in New Jersey and worked for Sharpsville High School as a custodian. She also worked in the restaurant at J.C. Penney's.
She was a long-time member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Sharpsville and was very active in the church. She was a former Altar Rosary Society member, former Choir member, taught CCD and worked with the youth programs and helped with the pre-school program.
Mary liked quilting, doing artwork, especially watercolors and playing cards. She was a member of the Wednesday Night Bible Study Group at Connelly Manor and a volunteer at UPMC Farrell Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter Sylvia (Sam) Rakyta and a son Thomas (Kim) DelFratte, both of Hubbard, OH, two sisters, Barbara (Caniff) and Nancy (Lester) Patterson, both of New Jersey, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and son-in-law Dan Humes and daughter -in-law Angel DelFratte.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son Jerrold DelFratte, a daughter Janice Humes and two sisters, Patricia Swartout and Arline Bon Durant.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, PA. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Allen officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
Memorial contributions can be made to either the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 200 Vesey Street, 28th Floor, New York, NY, 10281or St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 311 W. Ridge Ave, Sharpsville, Pa. 16150.
