Martin "Marty" Banjak
Martin "Marty" Banjak, of Hermitage, Pa, passed away unexpectedly on Wed. morning , June 12, 2013 at 1:51 a.m., in the E.R of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 92.
Martin was born in Farrell, PA on October 16, 1920, the son of the late George (Bandzak) Banjak and Anna (Stracka) Banjak. He was a 1940 graduate of Farrell High School and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army , 35th Infantry Division, European Theater, during WWII, and was awarded a Purple Heart.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Hermitage, PA., where he had served on the property committee. Marty had worked as a die setter at former Sawhill Tube in Sharon., for over 40 years. He was a member of Sokol USA of Farrell and was Past President of the Sawhill Retirees Group. Marty was a very talented woodworker having made several doll houses and train sets. He enjoyed traveling and dancing.
He was the husband of Betty Jane (Smith) Banjak. whom he married on October 20, 1945. She survives at home. He is also survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Kush and her husband, Richard, of Chandler, AZ, and two sons, Richard Banjak and his wife, Carolyn, of Gardeners, PA. and Allan Banjak and his wife, Lisa, of Carlisle, PA., along with four grandchildren, Ali Banjak, Jeffrey Kush, Christopher Kush and his wife, Kim, and Douglas Banjak, and two great-grandaughters, Carli and Ashlee Kush.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Banjak, and two sisters, Anna Krispinsky and Mary Zets, and four brothers, Andrew, Steve, George, and John Banjak.
Donations in his memory may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3325 Morefield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Friends are invited to call Sunday, June 16, 2013, from 2:00-5:00 p.m.. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146 and one hour prior to service on Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage, PA. at 11:00a.m. on Monday, June 17th, 2013 . Interment at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
