Louis G. Baumgartner, of. Hermitage, PA, passed away on Sunday evening , Sept. 20, 2015, at 7:50 p.m., at his home surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. He was 83.
Louis was born in West Middlesex, PA on September 23, 1931, the son of the late John Baumgartner Sr. and Emma (Herman) Baumgartner. He was a 1950 graduate of Hickory High School, where he was on the football team.
He had worked as a a gauger in the 60" hot mill at the former Sharon Steel for 32 years. Lou knew what hard work was at an early age, helping out at the family farm in West Middlesex.
Lou attended Sharon 1st United Methodist Church, where he was an usher and a greeter.
He was a very active volunteer at the Salvation Army in Sharon for 17 years.. Lou was quite the handyman and whenever something needed repaired, he was there with his big smile, ready to help. He also helped out being a prep cook for the Senior Program. Lou enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of the Sharon Steel Retirees group.
On September 27, 1957, he married the former Sophie (Samol) Baumgartner. She survives him at home.
He is also survived by his son, Larry Baumgartner of Espyville, PA, and a daughter, Debra Lynn, of Wisconsin, and his sister, Margaret Baker , of Farrell, PA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Morris, Elizabeth Lochner, Julia White, Madeline Swetlech, Helen Peternac, and Marie McConnell along with his brothers, John Baumgartner Jr. and Joseph Baumgartner.

Funeral service at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon, PA. at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24th, with Rev. Terry Shaffer, pastor of Sharon 1st United Methodist Church, and Claire Megles, Chaplain of Gentiva Hospice, officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
