Leonard F. " Len" Heasley, of St. Paul's Continuing Care, (West Salem twp.) Greenville, PA, formerly of Pine Hollow Blvd., Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 12:40 p.m., Wed., June 4th, 2014 in St. Paul's, after an extended illness. He was 93.
Mr. Heasley was born in Great Belt, PA on June 10, 1920, and raised in Herman, PA, (both in Butler Co.) the son of the late Samuel and Clara (McClafferty) Heasley. He served in the U.S. Army as a Technician 5th Grade with the 6999 Emergency Batalion in England, France, and Germany during WW II .
Len had worked as a craneman at the former Sharon Steel in Farrell., for almost 35 years retiring in 1982.
While living in Hermitage, he was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. While living at St. Paul's he received communion from St. Michael's Church in Greenville. He was a member of the Butler VFW Post # 249 and a Life Member of the Summit twp. Sportsman's Club of Butler Co., the NRA, and the Gun Owners of America Association. Len enjoyed gardening, training his dogs, and spending time with his family, especially at picnics.
He married the love of his life, Loretta A. "Ret" (Miller) Heasley, on Aug. 16, 1951. She died Dec. 17, 2008. He is survived by several nieces and nephews along with their families. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Walter, Daniel, George and Raymond Heasley.
Friends are invited to call Friday, June 6, 2014 from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Funeral service at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon, PA. at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, June 7th, with Rev. Glenn Whitman of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon officiating. Burial at Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage, PA , with Military Honors presented by the Hickory VFW , Post 6166, Honor Guard.
