Kathryn "Kay" Zipay, John XXII Home, of 2250 Shenango Valley Frwy. Hermitage, formerly of East State St., Hermitage,PA, passed away peacefully at 3:40 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at John XXIII Home, after a brief illness. She was 100.
Kathryn was born in Hooversville, PA on July 25, 1913, the daughter of the late George Klimek Sr. and Mary (Porubsky) Klimek. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon, PA.
Kay was a beautician at having owned the former Ritz Salon in Sharon., for several years .She later opened a salon in her home where she continued to work until she was 80.
She had been a member of the Adella Rebekah Lodge #284, past recording secretary of the United Lutheran Society #62. She had played bocce in the Saxon Club Tuesday Night League & the Friday Night Bocce League at the Farrell American Legion. Kay loved to play cards, watch baseball, bowl, and travel. She was very proud of the fact that she had seen 5 generations of her family come to fruition. She truly enjoyed the residents and the staff at John XXIII Home, where she was a very active participant in many activities, having lived there for the last 12 years.
She was the widow of Michael Zipay. whom she married on Dec. 23, 1933. He died on Oct. 6, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Edna Marshall and her fiance', Louis Urschel, of Marietta, OH. two grandchildren, Karen Page and her husband, Clifton, of Pittsburgh, PA and Michael Swartz, of North Bloomfield, OH, a grandaughter in law, Michelle Mulidore, of Kinsman, OH, along with two great- grandsons, Benjamin Page and Christian Swartz, and a great-grandaughter, Victoria Swartz, and a great-great-grandson, Michael Swartz-Austin. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Ann Cestone, Margaret Petrick, Mary Barr, and Susan Nemetz, and two brothers, George Klimek Jr. and Adam Klimek.

Friends are invited to call Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Funeral service at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon, PA. at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, October 26th, with Rev. James M. Seeley, Interim pastor of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Hermitage, PA.
