Joseph P.  Brashen

Joseph P. Brashen, age 82, of  Hermitage, PA., formerly of Sharon, PA., died on Monday, August 13th, 2018 in St. John XXIII Home in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. Born April 4th, 1936 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Katherine Zachick Brashen.
Joe was a graduate of Sharon High School and also a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He attended both Youngstown State University and Penn State University, Shenango Campus. He served in the U. S. Army during peace time from 1959 til 1962. Joe was a licensed & practicing funeral director since 1970 and operated his his own business since 1990.  He operated most recently out of the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home untill his his retirement in 2013.
Joe is survived by a sister Ruth A. Brashen of Hermitage, and her companion Edwin Bortner of Sharpsville, Pa., and a sister-in-law Mary Brashen of Hubbard, Ohio as wellas several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Elsie Gursky and three brothers Francis X., Edwin J. and John A. Brashen.
Visitation will be Friday, August 17th, 2018 from 11:00 am til 1:00 pm at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State street, Sharon, Pa. 16146. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm from the funeral home with Monsignor Michael Polanichka officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. John XXIII home for the excellent care that Joe recieved while he was a resident there. Donations in his memory may be made to Buhl Farm Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
