John Edward "Bud" Wansack

John Edward "Bud" Wansack, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026 at UPMC Farrell with family by his side.

A life-long resident of West Middlesex, Bud was born on May 20, 1941, to the late John and Pauline (Kernisky) Wansack. He graduated from WMHS in 1960 and joined the Army. On July 17, 1965 he married Kathleen Slovesko, who passed away in 2005. For 32 years, he worked in the Blooming Mill at Sharon Steel. Upon retirement, he worked as a driver for Daffin's Candies.

He lived a religious life as a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, and enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing old stories, doing yard work, and gambling – especially in Vegas. His deepest passion was "ball”. In his early years, he played basketball and baseball, then continued playing softball for 21 seasons traveling around Pennsylvania and surrounding states. He coached youth basketball and baseball and organized the 9-team Sharon Steel Softball League that he spent 6 years managing. Up until 2022, he was an ASA Umpire assigned to many tournaments in the region. He was a very proud Class of 2015 inductee of the Mercer County Hall of Fame with over 65 years of dedication to sports.

Bud is survived by two sons, Ken (Jennifer) Wansack of West Middlesex and Keith (Jennifer) Wansack of Sharpsville, four granddaughters Stefanie (Brandon) Rappach, Kyleigh (Anthony Cooper) Wansack, Kendall (Ed Hetrick) Wansack, and Megan (Tommy) Davis, and two great-grandchildren Laken and Logan Davis. A brother Joe (Joanne) Wansack, sister Cindy (Mike) Bartolo, brothers-in-law Norman Oliver, Jim Sarvas, and his brother-in-law and closest friend Ed Slovesko and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
