John L. DePreta Sr., of 443 Service Ave., Sharon, PA, formerly of S. Pymatuning twp., passed away on December 28, 2012 at 2:01 a.m. in Sharon Regional Health System, after an extended illness. He was 85.
He was born in Farrell, PA on May 9, 1927, the son of the late Michael and Maria (Zoccola) Depreta. He was a graduate of Farrell High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Marines as a PFC during WW II.
John had worked as a shipper at the former Sharon Steel in Farrell., for over 40 years. In his younger days he had worked at the former New Deal Club in Farrell. He loved to do gardening, fishing, and coin collecting. He was of the Catholic faith.
He was the husband of Shirley J. (Burkhart) DePreta. She survives in Farrell. He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Smith of Grove City, PA,Joanna Laird and her husband, Roger, of Hermitage,PA, and
Cynthia Fragle and her husband, Joseph of Sharon, PA. along with his two sons, Larry DePreta and his wife, Rebecca, of Wilmington, NC.,and John L. DePreta Jr. of Hermitage,PA. Also surviving are his sister, Frances Cione of Farrell, PA. and 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by two brothers, Louis J. and Michael J. DePreta.

Donald Berdis officiating on Thursday, January10, 2013 at 10:30 a.m... Cremation services provided by the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
