James Russell Smith Sr.

James Russell Smith Sr., age 86, of Sharon, PA, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 17, 1938, in Clarksburg, WV, he was the son of the late Graves Huffman and Sara Ellen (Garrett) Smith. He married Beverly Joyce Bayer on June 3, 1973, and she survives in Hermitage, PA.

James graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School in 1957 and worked most of his life as an appliance salesman for Sears.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling and his family described him as a Mr. Fix it, as he could fix anything. He was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, PA.

Surviving is a son James R. Smith Jr., of New Castle, PA, a stepdaughter Debra L, Pickens, and a stepson David R. Pickens, both of Sharon, PA, four grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Allison Sanitate, Paulie Sanitate and Michael (Samantha) Ser, five great-grandchildren, Jackson Paul Smith, Cayla Ser, Noah Ser, Cameron Ser and Brayden Ser and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Tamela Hartwick and three sisters, Wilma Ruth Edwards, Annabelle Winter and Patty Criss.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:30 PM to 1:00 PM at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, PA, 16146. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM from the funeral home with Fr. James Power, officiating, Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
