Ingeborg Victoria Amundsen

July 18, 1928 – July 10, 2026

Ingeborg Victoria Amundsen died peacefully on July 10, 2026, just shy of her 98th birthday. She will be best remembered for her zest for life, love of her community, and the lasting impact she had on all who came to know her.

Inge was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1928. It was there, in 1951, as a pediatric nurse, she met Siegfried William Amundsen ("Bill"), a dentist serving with the U.S. Army in Germany. The couple married in Frankfurt in 1954. At the close of his tour of duty, the couple returned to America and settled in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, where Bill established his dental practice. Inge became a naturalized citizen in 1960, and she spoke often and proudly of her love for America and its opportunities.

Throughout her life, Inge was an active volunteer who took on leadership roles in one organization after another. Her focus was always on the contributions that would make a real difference, and she firmly believed that obstacles could be overcome with friendship, love, and dedication.

She was a member of the Hermitage Women's Club for 50 years, serving twice as its President, and later served as the Northwestern District Director of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Pennsylvania. The Women's Club played an important role in many aspects of community life, extending and mobilizing services at the neighborhood level, particularly for those most in need.

Inge was also active in the Shenango Valley YMCA, where she became its first woman President of the Board of Directors. In that role, she brought a renewed focus to youth, adult, and family activities, and she was instrumental in launching youth summer camps and swimming lessons.

One of the great loves of Inge's life was her church. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sharon for 71 years, dedicating many hours of service as a Deacon and organizing and cooking for countless church events.

Her volunteerism seemed endless. She delivered Meals on Wheels, served as a library aide at Hickory Elementary School, volunteered with the Sharon Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and served on the Interfaith Council.

She loved mahjong, playing bridge with her bridge club, exercising, listening to Andre Rieu concerts, and traveling, especially on Viking River cruises throughout Europe. By making annual trips to Germany to be with her German family and supporting the Apollo Männerchor of Sharon, PA, she continued her German heritage. Mom truly epitomized the meaning of “gemütlichkeit.”

Inge is survived by her four children: Tom, a retired Mercer County Controller (Babs Quincy), Hermitage, PA; Jeff, a retired American Airlines Captain (Mary), Park City, UT; Amy, an attorney (Robert Childers), Memphis, TN; and Cindy, a professor and urogynecologic surgeon (George Webster), Chapel Hill, NC, and granddaughter, Isabella Victoria Amundsen and great grandson, Oliver Quincy Little.

Memorial Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, 600 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146, or Apollo Männerchor Club, 391 South Dock St., Sharon, PA 16146.

The funeral service will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Glenn Hick, officiating. A luncheon reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall.
