Howard Gilbert Shaw

Howard Gilbert Shaw, of Greenville, PA, formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2017 at St. Paul's Continuing Care Community in Greenville after an extended illness. He was 93.
He was born in Brookfield, Ohio on November 18, 1923, the son of the late Hugh Clark and Gladys May (Sloss) Shaw. He was a 1948 graduate of Brookfield High School. Howard served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. during WWII having seen action in Okinawa, Japan.
He had worked as a tank insulator at the former GATX plant in Masury, OH, for 21 years. Previous to that, he had worked at the former Westinghouse plant in Sharon as a tester in the H building.
Howard was a long-time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon, PA, where he had served as a deacon an elder over the years and had been a member of the Presbyteers Sunday school class. Howard was proud of the fact that his grandfather served on the building committee when the church was built in the early 1900's.
Howard loved fishing and had a small boat that he used on lakes around the area. He was a member of the Hermitage Kiwanis Club and enjoyed gardening along with being an avid photographer.
He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Gilson) Shaw, whom he joyously married on Sept. 20, 1975 and they lived in their little house on N. Neshannock Rd for many years until they moved to St. Paul's in 2010. He married his first wife, the former Stella Anderson in 1949. Howard was her long -time dedicated caregiver until she passed away from Multiple Sclerosis in 1973.
Besides his wife, Mary Ellen, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and two brothers, James Clark Shaw, Robert Hugh Shaw, and two sisters, Gladys Marie Shaw and Doris Jean Williams.

Friends are invited to call on Wed., March 8, 2017, from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146
Funeral service at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 E. State St. Sharon, PA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9th, with Rev. Dr. Philip Makari, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment at America's Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
