Howard J. McCullough, of Patricia Avenue, Hermitage, Pa, a lifelong resident of the Shenango Valley, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 in Clepper Manor in Sharon, after a brief illness. He was 85.
Howard was born in Cleveland, OH on October 31, 1926, the son of the late Albert P. and Mary E. (McElavey) McCullough. He was a graduate of Sharon High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, in Sharon.
He had worked as a fitter at the former Westinghouse plant in Sharon., for over 38 years retiring in 1984.
Howard was a 55 year member of the Sharon American Legion, Post 299, where he had been a member of the Drill Team and was Past Vice Commander. Being of Irish heritage, Howard enjoyed singing Irish songs including his favorite "Galway Bay" along with playing harmonica, hunting, fishing, and camping. He wil be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
He was the widower of Joan C. (Hofius) McCullough. whom he was married to for 58 years. They were married on May 4, 1949. She died on Feb.17, 2007 . Howard will be sadly missed by his family which includes his three daughters, Mary Beth Benson and her husband Gerard, of Sharon, PA, Kathi Barnes and her husband, Richard, of Hermitage, PA, and Colleen Wolford and her companion, Bob Schwarz, of Hermitage, PA and a son, Dennis P. McCullough and his wife, Anne of Sharon, PA . Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Brooke, Nikki, Lindsay, and Joshua McCullough, Erin and Brendan Benson, Sarah Welch and her husband, Dan, Shauna Barnes, and Mason and Elizabeth Wolford, along with 4 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and his loving wife,Joan, he was preceeded in death by his beloved grandson, Ryan Benson, and a sister, Kathryn English and a brother, Charles McCullough.

Friends are invited to call Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 from 5:00 -8:00 p.m.. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, PA. at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27th, 2012, with Rev. Glenn Whitman officiating.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery Hermitage, PA with Military Honors provided by the Sharon Honor Guard.
