Harry Edwin Morrison Sr., Fort Myers, FL, formerly of N. Irvine Ave, Sharon, PA, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, Sept., 22, 2014 at 12:25 p.m in Ft. Myers after an extended illness. He was 91.
Mr. Morrison was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1923 in Hadley, PA the son of the late Edward and Leah Mullen Morrison. He was raised in Hadley and graduated in 1941 from Hadley High School . He served in the Navy Air Corps from 1942-1946. Mr. Morrison was accepted in the Naval Aviator Cadet program as a Navy pilot finishing first in his class. He later also became a radioman. He was attached to the Benjamin Franklin aircraft carrier and was training for the invasion of Japan when Japan surrendered on Sept. 2, 1945. Mr. Morrison served on the TBF Dive Bomber known as the "Avenger"
Harry had worked as an electrician for the former Westinghouse Electric in Sharon , PA for 43 years. He also was a two-term Sharon city councilman. Mr. Morrison retired to Sarasota , FL in 1989, where he was active in Sarasota softball leagues.
His wife, Judith A Morrison, whom he married on Feb. 19, 1945 in FT. Lauderdale , FL passed away on Dec. 17, 2005. He leaves two sons, Harry E. Morrison Jr., and his wife, Kathy, of Port Charlotte, FL, R.. Barry Morrison and his wife, Claudia, of Linesville, PA, and a daughter, Deborah M. Clawson and her husband, Richard, of Indiana, PA, nine grandchildren, Donald Morrison, Wendy Kleinhanz, Ron Morrison, Ray Morriaon, Kristin Chuko, Holly West, Andrew Clawson, Kevin Clawson, and Emily Clawson; 11 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Twila Morrison, of Hermitage, PA
Besides his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Joel Morrison, and two sisters, Irene Thomas and Jean Snyder.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, Sept, 26, 2014 from 5 :00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146 Funeral services will be held on Sat., Sept 27, at 10:00 a,m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral home in Sharon with Rev. John Trojak, of The 1st Baptist of Sharon officiating. Interment will take place in The Garden of Valor, of Hillcrest Memorial Park, In Hermitage, PA with Military Honors provided by the West Middlesex VFW Post 6233, Wheatland American Legion, Post 432, and Farrell VFW 52866 Honor Guard.
