Mr. Guy H. Ruggles Jr., 88, of 635 Sugar Hollow Blvd. Hermitage,PA, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.in Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness.
Guy was born in Miami, AZ on October 13, 1923, the son of the late Guy H. Ruggles Sr. and Faye (McBride) Ruggles. He graduated from Brisbee(AZ) High School in 1941 and then enrolled the Army Air Force cadet program while at the New Mexico Military Academy, in Roswell, NM, but he was called to basic training in Texas before completing the program. His time serving his country included advanced flying training and in 1944, he was appointed a 2nd Leutenant in the Army Air Force earning his silver wings as a pilot serving until November of 1945.
In 1949, he graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. degree in Engineering and accepted a position with Westinghouse Corporation moving to Sharon to become a design engineer for mobile transformers for 33 years retiring in 1983.
Guy was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, the Farrell Moose #55, and the B.P.O.E # 103 of Sharon, PA. He loved driving & had driven to all 50 states & the lower provinces of Canada with his wife. He enjoyed bowling & golf participating in both sports well into his later years. He was proud to be named 1986 league champion for the Westinghouse Retirees Golf League and to have scored a hole in one while playing golf.
His survivors include his wife Margaret M. "Peggy"(Marrie) Ruggles. whom he married on September 19, 1980, and her family, along with his sister, Nancy Ruggles Crowley of Fairfax, VA., a niece, Kathy Minnis, Fruit Grove, FL, his nephews, Douglas and Dennis Crowley, also of Fairfax, VA, and Richard Crowley, of Alexandria, VA. Besides his parents, he was preceeded in death by his first wife, the former Mary Ann Banas, who died September 16, 1975. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Friends are invited to call Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 4:00-6:00p.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State Street, Sharon, PA 16146. A funeral ritual service presented by the B.P.O.E. Lodge 103 will take place on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home
A Celebration of Life service will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage, PA.
