Gloria E. Hummell

Gloria E. (Root) Hummell, age 78, of Hermitage, PA, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

Born April 11, 1946, in Sharon, PA, she was the daughter of the late Russell E. and Ruth (McCallister) Root. She married Charles Hummell and he survives in Hermitage, PA.

Gloria was one of thirteen children and while growing up she helped raise her younger siblings. She spent most of her life as a homemaker taking care of her own children, and also caring for her dog.  Gloria was a family woman who will be missed by many.

Surviving are a daughter Bonnie (Doug) Barlett, of Diamond, OH, a son, Russell Root, of Wheatland, PA, two brothers, Robert Root, of Brookfield, OH, and Edward (Lucy) Root, of Vienna, OH, three sisters Marge Munnell and Norma Root, both of Sharon, PA, and Joyce Garvey, of Bristolville, OH, three grandchildren Zach barlett, Tiffany Barlett and Kertyssa Smalls and one great-grandchild, Everly Smalls.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Jim, Tom, Dave, Richard and Gerald Root, two sisters Rita Evans and Shirley Christensen and an infant son Scott Allen Root.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral home LLC, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, PA, 16146. A time of remembrance will follow. Burial will be in Haywood Cemetery.
