Gladys Mae Carlin

Gladys Mae Carlin, of Brookfield, Ohio, passed away quietly at home after a brief illness. She was 89. Gladys was a special lady who touched many lives with her faith, strength, and love. She will be lovingly remembered as a sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was a teacher, storyteller, gardener, and a child of God. She made friends wherever she was. She loved music and traveling with her family. Her home was the gathering place for the holidays and family functions. Gladys enjoyed the "Fruits of her Plum Tree", a story she wrote about the simple joys of her life. Gladys was born in Sharon on August 17t, 1924 to Emanuel Blair and Gladys (Evans) Jones. She graduated from Sharon High School in 1942 and still continued to meet with a few of her classmates for monthly luncheons and also belonged to a monthly card club. Mrs. Carlin worked for a number of years at Lee's Plumbing in Sharon and attended Youngstown State University. On July 5, 1946, Gladys married Edwin "Ted" Carlin. They had four children and were
happily married for 44 years until Ted's passing in 1990. Gladys was a lifelong faithful member of the Community of Christ Church in Sharon and over the years, she served as stewardship commissioner, youth leader, and historian. She taught Sunday School for 40 years and will be fondly remembered by generations of her Sunday School students. She served as a band booster and PTA member at Brookfield School District. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Ted, her parents, her stepmother, Mary Rose Vogel, an infant son, Michael Blair Carlin, and 3 brothers, Sidney, Walter, and Roger Jones. Surviving are two daughters, Kathi Bateman and her husband Chuck, of West Middlesex, PA Holly Janusko and her husband, Bob, of Sharon, a son, Dr. Kerry Drew Carlin, of Greenville, NC, four grandsons, Bob (Pam) Moon, of Bedford, TX, Mike (Barb) Moon, and Nate Moon, both of of Fredricksburg, VA, Seth (Ramona)Moon, Dallas, TX, and great grandchildren, Carley, Andrew, Elisabeth, Audrey, Braeden, Even, and Mercedes Moon, a sister, Ruth Record and her husband, Don, of Brookfield, OH. Our beloved "Aunt Glady" also leaves many adoring nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, in laws, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed and her memory will be forever cherished by those whose lives she touched. I lieu of flowers, and in keeping with her wishes, donations in her memory may be made to the Community of Christ Church, 506 Elm Ave., Sharon, PA 16146, or The Hillcrest-Flynn Pet Care Foundation, Hermitage, PA 16148 Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, from 4:00 until 6:45 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St. Sharon, PA 16146. Funeral service at the funeral home immediately following the calling hours. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Sharon, PA Funeral arrangements by the Joseph P. Brashen Funeral Service, 264 East State Street, Sharon.
