Elsie M. Harkulich, 81, of Hermitage and recently of St. John XXIII Home, also in Hermitage, PA passed away at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 after a long battle with any illness called Ataxia.
Elsie was born in Sharon, PA on April 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Elmer and Elsie (Dunbar) Roberts.
She was baptized and a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Sharon. She also sang in the church choir for a few years.
Elsie was a graduate of the Sharon High School Class of 1953. Soon after graduation, she got a job as an operator at the former Bell Telephone in Sharon for five years.
Then on April 21, 1956, she married her husband of 60 years, John Harkulich. When she had her first child in July of 1958, she gave up her job to become a full time mother and her two more children.
Elsie liked to read and often went to Buhl Library (now the Shenango Valley Community Library) and took home books written by different authors she was fond of. She enjoyed going to the movies, taking vacations with family or traveling on bus tours with her friends. She had been a volunteer at the Sharon Regional Hospital for a few years and volunteered her babysitting skills for two area families. Most of all, she loved being a wonderful wife, mother , and grandmother to her family.
Besides her husband John, she is survived by her daughter, Linda Skarica and her husband Mike, of West Middlesex, PA, her son Darren Harkulich and his wife Lori, of Fort Myers, FL, her grandchildren, Leah , Lauren, and Jeremy Harkulich, Matthew and Marco Skarica, and Joshua and Collin Harkulich. She is also survived by her sisters, Julie Marenchin of Hermitage, PA and Dorothy Eversole, of Leadville, CO. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Harkulich, a brother Carl Roberts, a sister, Martha Snyder and a loving sister-in-law, Fran Guy. They are all in the hands of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Memorial contribution in her name may be made to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane, Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN, 55447.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, March 14,2017 from 1:00 till 3:00 p.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146. Funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Dyson of Sharon First United Methodist Church, officiating.
