Mrs. Dorothy Reno VanCise, 96, of 8221 Lamor Rd. Mercer, PA., formerly of 5337 East State Street, Hermitage, PA 16148, went home to spend Christmas in the presence of her Lord on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 9:45 a.m. at Countryside Convalescent Home in Mercer, PA after an extended illness.

Dorothy was born in Hermitage, PA on August 10, 1915, the daughter of the late Walter A. and Eva S. (Lewis) Reno. She was a 1933 graduate of Hickory High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Sceince Degree and Masters Degree in Education at Slippery Rock University.

She was a longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, PA., where she had been a member of the former Rho Sigma Sunday School class, the Couplers Class, and the Senior Fellowship Group. She had worked as an elementary school teacher for the Hermitage School District for 37 years retiring in 1980. Dorothy had been a member of the Hermitage Teacher's Association, the Mercer Co. Association of School Retirees, the PA Association of School Retirees, and a life member of the Hermitage Historical Society. Dorothy loved gardening and entertaining friends and family at her home also enjoyed her many hours of playing bridge.
She was the widow of Clifton H. Van Cise. whom she married on Aug. 21, 1937. He died on Nov. 14, 1994. Her survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Van Cise of Hermitage, PA, her son-in-law, Thomas Fry of Ottawa, OH, her grandson, Brett Fry and his wife Dunel, of Ottawa, OH and their children, Chance and Sienna Fry, along with her brother, Walter Reno and his wife, Naomi, of Hermitage, PA and three nieces and a nephew and several grand nieces and grand nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceeded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Fry, who died Aug. 16, 2010.

Friends are invited to call Tuesday 3:00 till 6:00p.m.. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146 and Wednesday 10:00 till 11:00 a.m.. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, PA. Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon, PA. with Pastor Chris Wright & Rev. Dr. Joseph Hopkins officiating. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park Hermitage,PA.
