Clyde H. Newton, of Mercer, formerly of Trace St., Hermitage, PA passed away at12:42 a.m. in the emergency room .of UPMC Horizon Hospital in Farrell. He was 94.
Clyde was born in Greenville, PA on December 27, 1921, the son of the late Floyd and Esther (Knoblow) Newton.
He served in the Civil Conservation Corp. and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Clyde was a the oldest living member of the Shenango Valley VFW #1338, and was a member of the Sharon American Legion Post 299, and the Lake Placid, FL VFW, and the Carpo-Russian Club, of Sharon. Being mechanically inclined, he loved to work on cars and fixing things. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and playing pool. Clyde was of the Presbyterian faith. He had worked as a crane man at the former G.A.T.X. Masury, OH, for 30 years
Clyde was the husband of Ida E. (Weston) Newton whom he married on June 1, 1946. She survives him. He is also survived by her daughter, Martha Faber and her husband, Phil, of Sharpsville, PA. a granddaughter, Billie Sue Kaltenbaugh, a grandson, William J. "BJ" Lloyd III, and granddaughters, Jamie L. Merritt, Tracy L. Loutzenhiser, and Stephanie A. Kephart. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, and 5 great- great- grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianna Lloyd, and his six sisters, Marion Fisher, Helen Ott, Harriet Patton, Gladys Schutz, Isabel Newton, and Inez Woods and his brothers, James and Floyd Newton.
