Betty Jane Banjak, of Hermitage, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 5:50 p.m., at Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage, after a brief illness. She was 88.
Betty was born in Grove City, PA on June 21, 1925, the daughter of the late Homer G. Smith Sr. and Lottie (Inman) Smith. Growing up, she attended Mercer Schools.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Hermitage, PA., and a member of the Dorcas Society and the Altar Ruth Society of the church.
She had worked at the former Westinghouse plant in Sharon many years ago. Betty enjoyed playing cards, bowling, square dancing & polka dancing, and traveling. She was a member of the Sokol Lodge in Farrell.
Betty was the widow of Martin Banjak. whom she married on Oct. 20, 1945. He died on June 12, 2013.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean Kush and her husband, Richard, of Chandler, AZ,
two sons, Richard Banjak and his wife, Carolyn, of Gardners, PA, and Allan Banjak and his wife, Lisa, of Carlisle, PA, four grandchildren, Ali Banjak, Jeffrey Kush, Christopher Kush and his wife, Kim, and Douglas Banjak, and two great-granddaughters, Carli and Ashlee. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Mongello and her husband, Jerry,and a brother, Homer G. Smith Jr. all of Houston , TX. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Chad Banjak, and two sisters,Virginia and Marjorie Smith and anda brother, Charles Smith.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3325 Morefield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State Street, Sharon, PA 16146.
Funeral service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage, PA. at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4th, with Rev. Gary B. Nelson, Pastor officiating. Interment at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Hermitage, PA.
