Americus J. Desantis Sr.

Americus J. DeSantis Sr., of Sharon, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 8:30 p.m. in his residence surrounded by his family from complications of a recent stroke. He was 89.
Americus was born in Sharpsville, PA on July 29, 1925, the son of the late Francesco and Giovanna (Rosati) DeSantis. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class during WW II.
He had worked as a trackman for Con-Rail for 44 years. He enjoyed making video and musical recordings and he put together historic videos of the Shenango Valley. Americus was of the Catholic faith.
He was the widower of Loretta Jean (Barker) DeSantis. whon he married on July 7, 1951. She died on Feb. 9, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Johanna Reed, of Sharon, PA, and his two sons, Americus J. "Joe" DeSantis Jr., and his wife, Terry Greever, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Francis J. DeSantis, of Sharon, PA, along with 5 grandsons, Edward DeSantis, Jason Parish, Trevor Reed, and twins, Michael and John DeSantis, a granddaughter, Olivia Kevwitch, and two great-grandsons, J. Anthony Starkey and Devin Simpson. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Ann Marie DeSantis, and Victoria Parish, and his two sisters and four brothers.

At his request there will be no calling hours. Funeral service at St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, Hermitage, PA at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 10th, 2015, with Rev. Thomas Whitman of St. Joseph's Church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Wheatland American Legion, West Middlesex VFW, and Farrell VFW Honor Guard at St. Rose Cemetery Hermitage, PA. Funeral arrangements by Harold W.
