Alma Laverne Young

Alma LaVerne Young, of 2250 Shenango Valley Frwy. Hermitage,PA formerly of Sharon, PA passed away peacefully at John XXIII Home in Hermitage at 10:10 p.m. , Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 after a brief illness. She was 98.
Alma was born in Sharon, PA on October 14, 1916, the daughter of the late William J. and Bertha (Hoffman) Young. She was a 1933 graduate of Sharon High School. Alma was a member of 1st United Methodist Church of Sharon, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women group and the Martha Circle. She had worked as receptionist/switchboard operator at the former Golden Dawn Foods in Sharon., for over 50 years.
Alma enjoyed playing cards, crafts, reading , going to lunch with friends, and spending time with her family, especially doting over the little ones.
She is survived by her great nieces, Kathy Delorenzo, of Mercer, PA, Jennifer Shaw of Mt. Vernon, Maine, Tracey Arenivas and her huband, Junior, of Midland, TX. and her great nephews, Douglas Jones, and his wife, Toni, of Fowler, OH, Mark Elliott and his wife, Barbara of Midland, TX , and a niece-in-law, Ruby Elliott also of Midland, TX. Several great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews also survive. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Young Elliott, a niece, Beva Jones and her nephews, Bobby, Teddy, and Donald Elliott, and a great-nephew, Gary Elliott.
Donations in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Friends are invited to call Monday, Nov. 24th, 2014 , from 6:00 p.m. till 7:00p.m. at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Funeral service at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, Sharon, PA. at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24th, with Rev. Terry Shaffer, pastor officiating. Interment at Brookfield twp. Cemetery Brookfield twp., Ohio. Condolences to the family may be expressed by visiting stevensonfuneralhome.net
