Alfred A. Malatesta, of Hermitage, formerly of Sharpsville and Farrell, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at 4:05 p.m. in Nugent CCRC in Hermitage, after an extended illness. He was 97.
Alfred was born in Farrell, PA, on May 30, 1918, the son of the late James and Rose (Rotell) Malatesta. He was raised in Farrell and was a 1936 graduate of Farrell High School, and went on to St. Bonaventure College, the University of Pittsburgh, and then earned a Master's Degree in Education from Westminster College. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was stationed in California..
He had worked as a Latin and English teacher at Farrell Schools before retiring in 1978. He had also worked, in his younger years, at the former Westinghouse plant in Sharon.
Alfred was an accomplished musician, playing saxophone and clarinet in several local bands, including The Benny Jones Band, during the 1950's and 1960's. Besides music, he enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was of the Catholic faith.
He was the widower of Lillian P. (Reeves) Malatesta. She died on May 10, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Jeannnette (Revis) Cuascut, and her husband, Anibal, of Sharon, PA, and his sons, Rick Malatesta, and his wife, Judy, of Sharpsville, PA, and Terry Malatesta, and his wife, Mona, of Hubbard, OH, along with his four grandchildren, Brenda Edwards, and her husband, Walter, Gina Malatesta, Laurie Smith, and her husband Jeff, and Michael Malatesta, and his wife, Cherie, and a great-grandson, Ryan Smith.

Private family viewing and services were held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, PA.
